Jesus The Jew?

To say Jesus was a Jew is to say he was a religious  Pharisee.

This article is a compilation and much of the information behind it came from an article written by Benjamim H. Freedman.

When the Bible speaks of salvation being of the Jews it is doing so based on a mistranslation of the term "Judea." Salvation came out of Judea through Jesus and this is connected to the term Salvation came out of the tribe of Judah.

 Did this get your attention? It should.

There is a lot of misinformation, concerning the Jews, circulating among Christians and it is because of the lack of continuity in research by their leaders. A lot of contradiction is being passed off as the truth.

The term Jew is a term that was not known until the 1800s. It is a mispronunciation of the term Judea. The "J" is supposed to be pronounced like the "Y" in the word yes. ^[1] It was an attempt to designate the followers of Pharisaism, as being Hebrews, as they translated the text into other languages.

Note the following quote. The history of the origin of the word "Jew" in the English language leaves no doubt that the 18th century "Jew" is the 18th century contracted and corrupted English word for the 4th century Latin "Iudaeus found in > St. Jerome's Vulgate Edition. Of that there is no longer doubt. Here is an excerpt from the Adam Clark commentary.

“Write, said they,that HE said, l am king of the Jews;” thus endeavoring, by the addition of a vile lie, to countenance their own conduct in putting him to death. But this Pilate refused to do. Both Luke,and John, John 19:20, say that this accusation was written in Greek, Latin, and Hebrew. In those three languages, we may conceive the label to stand thus, according to the account given by St. John In Latin-rwmaisti: IESUS NAZARENUS REX UDAEORUM.(Jesus King of Judea Jesus was a Judean. He was from Judaea. He was neither a Pharisee nor a Saducee, however the Judaism of today is very closely tied to Pharisaism. They are proud of that connection.

Jesus took a strong stand against the Pharisees.

I will repeat some of these verses again; please do not dismiss them.

Here is another quote from BENJAMIN H. FREEDMAN's article on this subject. ^[1]

""Inscribed upon the Cross when Jesus was Crucified were the Latin words "Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudeorum". Pontius Pilate's mother-tongue. No one will question the fact that Pontius Pilate was well able to accurately express his own ideas in his own mother-tongue. The authorities competent to pass upon the correct translation into English of the Latin "Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudeorum" agree that it is "Jesus of Nazarene Ruler of the Judeans." There is no disagreement upon that by them".

(Freedman has a lot of good material in his articles, but they are wordy to say the least.) Here is another quote from his writings.

"The utterance by the Christian clergy which confuses Christians the most is the constantly repeated utterance that "Jesus was a Jew."

".... . That misrepresentation and distortion of an incontestable historic fact is uttered by the Christian clergy upon the slightest pretext. They utter it constantly, also without provocation. They appear to be "trigger happy" to utter it. They never miss an opportunity to do so. "

"Informed intelligent Christians cannot reconcile this truly unwarranted misrepresentation and distortion of an incontestable historic fact by the Christian clergy with information known by them now to the contrary which comes to them from sources believed by them to be equally reliable.""

Jews today are thought of as being a race of people, however the term "Jew" is directly tied to Judaism, a religion.

Being of Hebrew ancestry ties you to physical Israel, not by being a Jew. Many, if not most, Jews from the area around Turkey and Russia were converts, yes, some were descendants of Hebrews. ^[2] DNA Testing proves this.

God's promise to Israel, according to Paul was based on their receiving a promise by faith, it was not based on their race. Israel assimilated people from other races through converting them.

God warned them repeatedly that He would cast them aside if they failed to be obedient.

30 Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed. 31 Behold, the days come, that I will cut off thine arm, and the arm of thy father's house, that there shall not be an old man in thine house. 32 And thou shalt see an enemy in my habitation, in all the wealth which God shall give Israel: and there shall not be an old man in thine house for ever. 1 Sam 2:30-32 KJV

The LORD is with you, while ye be with him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you; but if ye forsake him, he will forsake you. 2 Chron 15:2 KJV

8 If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them. 9 And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it; 10 If it do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them. Here are some quotes from encyclopedias... ^[3]

"The Universal Jewish Encyclopedia (1943):

The Jewish religion as it is today traces its descent, without a break, through all the centuries, from the Pharisees. Their leading ideas and methods found expression in a literature of enormous extent, of which a very great deal is still in existence. The Talmud is the largest and most important single piece of that literature … and the study of it is essential for any real understanding of Pharisaism."

"Concerning the Pharisees. The 1905 Jewish Encyclopedia says:

With the destruction of the Temple (70 A.D.) the Sadducees disappeared altogether, leaving the regulation of all Jewish affairs in the hands of the Pharisees. Henceforth, Jewish life was regulated by the Pharisees; the whole history of Judaism was reconstructed from the Pharisaic point of view, and a new aspect was given to the Sanhedrin of the past. A new chain of tradition supplanted the older priestly tradition (Abot 1:1). Pharisaism shaped the character of Judaism and the life and thought of the Jew for all the future."

Here for comparison is St. John 8:.. again:

39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham. John 8:39 KJV

42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. 43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. 44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. John 8:42-44 KJV

Do the Jews of today love Jesus? Do they have the faith of Abraham? According to this text they have to love Jesus or they are not God's children.

Why was Jesus so against them? That is another subject. Let me just insert another quote.

"Was Christ being just to the Pharisees?"

Without some knowledge of the written form of the "Tradition of the Pharisees," the Babylonian Talmud, one is unable to intelligently judge whether Jesus Christ was fair and just in His acid denunciations of Pharisaism, or not. One needs proof, offered by the irrefutable exhibits from Jewish authorities (set forth elsewhere herein) that the Talmud reverses every one of the Ten Commandments, the teachings of Moses and the Prophets, and enshrines their opposites under a "whited sepulchre" which is a disguise for murder and "all uncleanness," as Christ charged. Murder of non-Pharisees is always permitted; theft, sodomy, incest, rape are all permitted. For example, the righteousness of grown men violating baby girls under three is a favorite topic for discussion in book after book of the Talmud." ^[3]

Unfortunately we are taught to love those as brethren whom Jesus stood against and in effect we say Jesus was a Pharisee.

To be a Semitic you have to be from the area where Semitic's come from, and most Jews today have very little, if any, Semitic ancestry. Most are descendants of converts. In any case this material is based on the truth. Note this last quote from an article by Willie Martin.

""It is highly provable that the bulk of the Jew's ancestors 'never' lived in Palestine at all, which witnesses the power of historical assertion over fact."

Under the heading of "A brief History of the Terms for Jew" in the 1980 Jewish Almanac we read:

"Strictly speaking it is incorrect to call an Ancient Israelite a 'Jew' or to call a contemporary Jew an Israelite or a Hebrew."

The World Book omits any reference to the Jews, but under the word Semite it states:

"Semite . . . Semites are those who speak Semitic languages. In this sense the ancient Hebrews, Assyrians, Phoenicians, and Cartaginians were Semites. The Arabs and some Ethiopians are modern Semitic-speaking people.

Modern Jews are often called Semites, but this name properly applies only to those who use the Hebrew Language. The Jews were once a sub-type of the Mediterranean race, but they have mixed with other peoples until the name 'Jew' has lost all racial meaning. As was clearly stated above the word “Jew” is a religious term, and has no racial connection.
